Social Media Could Be Causing You To Lose More Sleep

 The study points out that people who visit social media websites frequently throughout the day are more inclined to have sleep disturbances and difficulty falling asleep. It is imperative to point out that the research focused on young individuals who use their mobile devices regularly. 

From a scientific standpoint,  the side effect to using our cell phones at night is the blue light they emit, which blocks the production of melatonin. This hormone helps aid in sleep by signaling to our brain that it is time for bed. Many sleep doctors suggest avoiding all forms of light before going to sleep.

I find this study very beneficial as it could potentially be very helpful to those trying to find answers to their sleeping problems at night. Personally, I know social media has an impact on my sleeping patterns. For that reason, I try my best to minimize social media use and stay offline when its close to bedtime.

Questions:

I would incur that social media negatively affects sleep patterns at nighttime. Would you agree or disagree?

Do you believe that social media keeps people up at night, or do you believe social media is used late at night because people cant fall asleep for various of other reasons

    An article released by the Huffington post 3 years ago, stated that about 65% of people between the ages of 18-44 sleep with their phone next to them.

    I agree that being on your phone, I-phone, or laptop at night negatively affects one’s sleeping patterns. I find that the light from those devices causes the person to not feel tired, thus staying awake longer. Additionally, if you’re checking your phone in bed, than that most likely means that you’re going to sleep with your phone next to you or near you — therefore, you’re not only trying to fight the the urge to check your phone every time it vibrates, but also being woken up each time (unless you’re like me and you’re an extremely heavy sleeper).

    As for the second question, I believe that people go on social media late at night when they can’t sleep and once on social media people tend to stay up longer due to social media.
