Zappos Zaps Its Job Postings
Online Shoe Retailer Creates Social-Media Network to Evaluate Potential Hires
The Wall Street Journal
An interesting development this week is the use of social media for hiring. Zappos, an online shoe retailer, will not use its company website for hiring. Instead candidates for hiring are expected to join a social network known as Zappos Insiders, where they will network with current employees and demonstrate their passion for Zappos, even publicly. Recruiters will tap them when there are vacancies.
This social media – Zappos Insider – will definitely advertise Zappos to the world over, hence its use for hiring is a great advertisement strategy. Also, in my view, this development is a recognition of the social media as acceptable tools of conducting businesses. It’s also a sign that social media skills displayed by consumers of the social media are evidences of talents and productivity. And from the consumers’ perspective, whatever you do in the social media could lift you up or bring you down. So put up the best image of you – what you want the world to appreciate about you. This was one of the points in the last article we reflected on.
